“”My response to the “I am not a feminist” internet phenomenon…. First of all, it’s clear you don’t know what feminism is. But I’m not going to explain it to you. You can google it. To quote an old friend, “I’m not the feminist babysitter.” But here is what I think you should know. You’re insulting every woman who was forcibly restrained in a jail cell with a feeding tube down her throat for your right to vote, less than 100 years ago. You’re degrading every woman who has accessed a rape crisis center, which wouldn’t exist without the feminist movement. You’re undermining every woman who fought to make marital rape a crime (it was legal until 1993). You’re spitting on the legacy of every woman who fought for women to be allowed to own property (1848). For the abolition of slavery and the rise of the labor union. For the right to divorce. For women to be allowed to have access to birth control (Comstock laws). For middle and upper class women to be allowed to work outside the home (poor women have always worked outside the home). To make domestic violence a crime in the US (It is very much legal in many parts of the world). To make workplace sexual harassment a crime. In short, you know not what you speak of. You reap the rewards of these women’s sacrifices every day of your life. When you grin with your cutsey sign about how you’re not a feminist, you ignorantly spit on the sacred struggle of the past 200 years. You bite the hand that has fed you freedom, safety, and a voice. In short, kiss my ass, you ignorant little jerks.””

How absolutely ridiculous. I’m going to ignore the part about it being an “internet phenomenon” I’m pretty sure it isn’t, I think the person who wrote this just doesn’t like the fact that there are actually females out there who don’t play into the delusion that we’re all still oppressed so they use that wording to try and discredit us; make us look like the decision to not be feminists comes from stupidity or following others. I don’t believe that’s the case at all.

Now, I’ve NEVER been a feminist and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with me disrespecting the fight for women’s rights. In fact, it’s pretty much the opposite. First off, fuck you for trying to shame women who aren’t feminists, that is bullshit. Second, Not only do I respect the fight for women’s rights, I acknowledge it deeply. Because those women fought for the right to vote, equality, etc. I’m able to have the life I do.

I’m not a feminist because I am not oppressed. I am equal. I can have any job a man can, do anything a man can. I’ve never once in my life been held back by the fact that I’m a female. Never. Why? Because once upon a time women fought for the rights I have today.

You know, if anything, FEMINISM disrespects what these women did more so than those of us who aren’t feminists. Feminism basically says “We don’t care that you did all that so we could have equal rights, we’re still going to claim we’re oppressed.” You’re literally ignoring the accomplishments of the women’s rights movement. Not only that, but you’re daring to say that you are somehow as oppressed as women used to be then. Talk about shitting on everything they worked so hard for.

The bottom line is this: Fuck you. Don’t fucking tell me that I’m disrespecting accomplishments and sacrifices that you don’t even acknowledge 99% of the time. It got brought up the way it was in this post simply because it was a convenient way to attack and sound as if you had a point.

I have equal rights, equal pay, and the freedom to do what I want and be who I want despite the fact that I’m female, THAT is why I’m not a feminist. I am fully aware that I have the rights I do because other women made serious sacrifices.

What really sucks is that women like me literally get shamed by other women simply for realizing that we aren’t helpless, oppressed little girls.
